Teaching
The biochemistry and molecular biology curriculum focuses on the fundamentals of these subjects and places them in the context of how the information was obtained so that the student is armed with the various laboratory, computational and bioinformatics skills to contribute to this expanding field. Professors emphasize the need for students to think critically and synthesize information; to find and extract information from continually expanding data bases; to formulate hypotheses; to analyze and evaluate data and draw scientifically valid conclusions from that data; and to communicate clearly and succinctly both orally and in writing.
As students master the skills mentioned above, they will develop the confidence to research independently and ask the kinds of questions that enable them to make new discoveries.
