Discoveries in the molecular life sciences are propelling current scientific discovery forward across all fields and are destined to continue to do so throughout the next century. So much about the chemical and physical makeup of living organisms remains unknown. The field inspires scientists to look at the chemical processes by which diseases like AIDS and cancer develop. When they understand the biological processes by which these diseases take shape and grow, they can genetically manipulate microorganisms to produce antibiotics, hormones and other forms of treatment.
BMB Seminar Series
The BMB Seminar series features presentations by students in the Senior Seminar course. Current students are actively conducting research with BMB faculty and will showcase their research experiences and findings at these Tuesday seminars.
Gottwald Science Center
Dedicated in 2006 after a $37 million expansion and renovation, the Gottwald Center for the Sciences is the home of the biology, chemistry and physics departments.
With 22 teaching laboratories and 50 student-faculty research laboratories, the space includes lab facilities for organic chemistry, biochemistry and neuroscience; a quantitative science center; a nuclear magnetic resonance center; and a digital biological imaging center.
